The aroma of freshly made garlic naan with its buttery sweet , nutty and heated flavor is really something increased. It goes with any curry dish and most of the time enhancing the flavours of the dish. While the butter naan is really great too , the slowly cooked garlic of this naan mellows into this beautiful sweet and roasted flavor making it a perfect balancing side for any curry.
So that’s all the good things about this dish , I’m sure many of you must have tried it , if not here’s the recipe ! Do not wait any longer , you need to have some garlic naan in your life LOL
It’s so sad that the pictures don’t do justice to how awesome it looked and tasted. It was buttery and so freaking soft.
Serves : 4 Preparation time : 1 hour
What you need :
- 3 pods of finely chopped garlic ( for the dough)
- 4 pods of finely chopped garlic ( for the garlic butter dressing)
- 2 cups of all purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup full fat yoghurt
- Water as needed
- Finely Chopped coriander leaves and seeds
- 2 tbsp cooking oil
What you need to do:
Add to the mixing bowl , the flour , baking soda , sugar , chopped garlic , salt and make a pit in the center and to it add the yoghurt and oil.
Mix it well and then add water by a tablespoon until you get the correct dough consistency.
The dough should not be watery or dry. It should be just sticky to the touch. The dough needs to be rested for at least 1/2 an hour (best if left for 3-4 hours ) before you can roll it out and cook it. The dough needs to be rested in a well oiled bowl and should covered with oil as well.
Roll the naan out real thin and cook it or fry it ( whatever you wanna call it ) on a hot non stick pan greased well with butter. Then I applied a nice coating of my garlic butter sauce and then turn it over and cook the other side as well.
To make the garlic butter sauce , melt some butter in a vessel and add some chopped garlic and coriander leaves to it.
It was simply perfect and enhanced the flavor of the gravy I made along with it. In fact , it is so yummy and flavorful that you can have it just by itself.
