Honey has been used since ancient times to treat multiple conditions. Honey protects against damage caused by bacteria. Some honey also stimulates production of special cells that can repair tissue damaged by infection. In addition, honey has an anti-inflammatory action that can quickly reduce pain and inflammation once it is applied. But not all honey is the same. The antibacterial quality of honey depends on the type of honey as well as when and how it’s harvested. Some kinds of honey may be 100 times more potent than others. (source)

Manuka honey is produced in New Zealand by bees that pollinate the native Manuka bush. Manuka honey is more effective than a regular antibiotic, can fight bacterial sickness & diarrhea, and has unique antimicrobial & antibacterial properties, can heal stomach ulcers and treat sore throat. Over all, it is a miracle product.

It contains hydrogen peroxide which gives its antibacterial element. Along with hydrogen peroxide, Manuka honey contains methylglyoxal (MGO) and dihydroxyacetone, two chemical substances with high antimicrobial action, and probably other bioactive compounds that give it additional potency. Dihydroxyacetone is found in high concentration in the nectar of Manuka flowers. MG is thought to give Manuka honey some of its antibacterial power. The higher the concentration of MG, the stronger the antibiotic effect

These chemicals are more stable than hydrogen peroxide which easily gets neutralized by heat, moisture, enzymatic action. Manuka honey is actually graded according to its non-peroxide antibacterial potency, referred to as Unique Manuka Factor (UMF).To be considered potent enough to be therapeutic, Manuka honey needs a minimum rating of 10 UMF.

Manuka honey, like other raw honey, is truly a gift from the bees. With a rich history and impressive profile, this honey has reason to be celebrated.

For the skin:

Our bodies actually produce small quantities of hydrogen peroxide to help attract white blood cells to areas where there’s an infection. Because of its disinfectant abilities, hydrogen peroxide kills bacteria. That’s one of the reasons why this honey is effective for acne. Certain acne treatment products  contain hydrogen peroxide in small quantities to disinfect and dry out the zit. With Manuka honey, you can get all that action naturally and it does not have any side effects or harm your skin over time.

For your body:

Dietary Methylglyoxal (MGO) is a compound that occurs naturally when glucose is made available to a living cell in the human body, plant or animal. Methylglyoxal is produced to insure every cell’s health. Methylglyoxal is present in natural form in the nectar of the flowers of Manuka Bush, ready for collection by the honey-bee. Methylglyoxal is transferred into the honey where it remains stable. Dietary Methylglyoxal found in Manuka Honey is resistant to heat, light, body fluids and enzymatic activity. This property makes MGO Manuka Honey superior to any other honey.

I have oily to combination skin which is very prone to breakouts during the hot weather and gets oily very quickly. I had breakouts often and excessive scarring from picking at my skin. Right now, my skin has improved and apart from a few breakouts due to the pesky hormones, my skin is pretty clear.

When I was in school (grade 12), I had horrible skin. My face looked like pepperoni pizza most of the time LOL. Trying Manuka honey was the best decision I’ve ever made. It made my skin so much easier to handle and gave it a beautiful glow overall. Also for those days when your skin won’t behave, Manuka honey calms and makes it so much better.  I used to apply it all over my face at night and sleep with it. It works amazing but I stopped doing that because you literally cannot sleep. It’s annoying and messy!

And that’s why I only apply it in the evening and wash it off before sleeping. What I do is pull my hair up and apply a thin layer of Manuka honey over my entire face in the evening and wash it off at night before I sleep. Yes, it’s a little messy and sticky but it is so worth it. If you have acne scars or acne itself that isn’t budging to any other treatment, TRY THIS OUT!

Do this for a week and you will notice the difference yourself. You will thank me for this tip! I bought my jar of honey from Marks and spencer’s outlet in Deira city center. But you can find the same online.
